On 28 October 2025, a national scientific-practical conference entitled "Green Economy in Uzbekistan: A New Model for Sustainable Development" was held at the Urgench Branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy, organized in partnership with the "Olima" Women's Association, Urgench State University, Mamun Academy, Urgench State Pedagogical Institute, Urgench Innovation University, Urgench Ranch Technology University, Urgench Mamun University, and the Khorezm Regional Branch of the Center for Sustainable Development.
The conference brought together faculty members from the region's higher education institutions, master's degree students, gifted undergraduates, and industry specialists.
The conference was opened by the Rector of the Urgench Branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy, Professor R. Ruziboyev. Welcoming remarks were delivered by the Deputy Khokim of Khorezm Region, Professor S. Salayev, and the Chairperson of the "Olima" Women's Association of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Professor R. Murtazayeva.
The following presentations were delivered at the conference: B. Tojiyev, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Cotton Growing and Breeding, spoke on "Adapting to and Mitigating the Consequences of Global Climate Change — A Demand of Our Time"; Associate Professor I. Yuryevna of Mamun University presented "Alternative Energy Sources for Heating Rural Schools in Uzbekistan"; Professor D. Babajanova of the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages addressed "The Environmental Situation in Uzbekistan: Recovery and Green Economy Development"; Head of the Department at Urgench State University named after Abu Raykhan Beruni, Professor D. Matyokubova, presented "Effective Mechanisms for Ensuring Innovative Diversification of Regional Business Structures Based on Green Economy Principles"; and Head of the Khorezm Regional Branch, Professor B. Ruzmetov, spoke on "Priority Directions for the Sustainable and Comprehensive Development of the Region".
In his address, Professor B. Ruzmetov elaborated on the regional dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals, the challenges of comprehensive regional development and opportunities for their effective resolution, as well as the activities of the oblast Center for Sustainable Development. He highlighted the role of faculty, students, and young people in implementing the objectives set forth in President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev's work "The 'Green' Path of Development of Green Uzbekistan". He further emphasised the importance of fulfilling the country's adopted "Strategy for Transition to a Green Economy for 2019–2030".
The conference addressed issues across the following thematic directions: 1. Universal challenges aligned with national interests, and the innovative development of the education and healthcare sectors. 2. Enhancing human dignity and further developing civil society, alongside the accelerated development of the national and regional economy.
A notable feature of the conference was its debate format, which allowed participants to raise questions and receive substantive responses from the presenters.
