On April 20, 2026, a scientific-practical seminar was held in the city of Tashkent with the participation of mahalla chairpersons, dedicated to the topic "The Role of the Mahalla System in the Context of the Large-Scale Reforms Underway in Uzbekistan."
At the event, special attention was given to the role and significance of the mahalla institution in ensuring sustainable development of society, raising the welfare of the population, and improving public administration on the principles of popular governance. It was emphasized that the mahalla system serves as a vital link in resolving socio-economic issues at the local level, conducting targeted work with the population, and ensuring the implementation of state policy.
Today, the mahalla is no longer merely an administrative-territorial unit, but has become a firm pillar of public oversight, solidarity, and social stability. The "Mahalla Seven" mechanism has created the capacity for prompt and timely resolution of various issues faced by the population directly at the local level. Mahalla chairpersons are actively engaged in the socio-economic development of their territories, the improvement of infrastructure, and the resolution of pressing concerns of citizens.
Furthermore, additional financial resources are being allocated in 2026 to support the mahalla. This will further strengthen the role of the mahalla institution, ensure the effective implementation of reforms at the local level, and create a solid foundation for improving the living standards of the population.
The declaration by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 2026 as the "Year of Mahalla Development and Community Advancement" was assessed as a significant strategic decision aimed at elevating the mahalla institution to a new stage in the life of the state and society.
