On 26 February 2026, the Sustainable Development Centre, in partnership with its Tashkent Regional Branch and the Tashkent Regional Union of Hunters and Fishermen, convened a roundtable discussion entitled 'Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the Year of Mahalla Development and Community Advancement: Mahalla — A Cell of Society'.
The event was attended by hunters and staff members of the Tashkent Regional Union of Hunters and Fishermen. The roundtable was organised in accordance with the conceptual framework articulated by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev regarding the role and significance of the mahalla institution in public life. The event placed particular emphasis on the mahalla's role in ensuring social cohesion, improving the welfare of the population, and strengthening civil society institutions.
Within the framework of the event, Abdumannon Tulaganov, Head of the Tashkent Regional Branch of the Sustainable Development Centre, delivered a presentation on the social dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals in the context of implementing the motto 'Mahalla — A Cell of Society' as part of the 'Year of Mahalla Development and Community Advancement'. Drawing on a scholarly and practical foundation, he elaborated on the mahalla's role in increasing public social engagement, supporting low-income families, and strengthening community oversight.
In addition, Shodiyar Azizov — an expert at the Sustainable Development Centre — provided an overview of the priority directions for fulfilling national goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development through 2030. The presentation analysed the alignment between strategic objectives defined at the global and national levels and the operational activities of the mahalla institution.
