On 18 May 2026, a roundtable discussion was held at Vocational College No. 1 in the city of Chirchiq under the slogan "The Year of Mahalla Development and Societal Advancement," as well as within the framework of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, on the theme "The Role of the Modern Mahalla in New Uzbekistan." The meeting brought together a total of 90 participants, including representatives of the city administration (khokimiyat), college teachers and students, the Chairman of the Association of Mahallas of the City of Chirchiq, and the chairpersons of four mahallas.
During the event, participants were given a close introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the work being carried out to implement them. In particular, A. Tulaganov, Head of the Centre for Sustainable Development for the Tashkent Region, provided a detailed explanation of the principal goals, objectives, and priorities of sustainable development. The event coordinator, Sh. Azizov, in turn, focused on the areas of quality education and decent work, speaking about the wide-ranging opportunities and initiatives being created by the state for young people. In addition, S. Teshaboyev, Chairman of the Association of Mahallas of the City of Chirchiq, shared information on the urban improvement and greening efforts being undertaken in the city, as well as on projects aimed at supporting youth.
Young people took a highly active part in the discussion, raising topical questions of interest to them and receiving well-grounded and clear guidance from the relevant officials. During the event, those gathered were provided with handouts and booklets relating to the topic.
