On 10 March 2026, a scientific-practical seminar entitled "The Role of the Mahalla System in the Context of the Wide-Ranging Reforms Being Implemented in Uzbekistan" was held in Tashkent with the participation of mahalla chairpersons.
The event emphasised the pivotal role of the mahalla institution in promoting sustainable community development, enhancing the well-being of the population, and bringing public administration closer to the people. Particular attention was drawn to the "mahalla seven" system, which serves to resolve citizens' problems locally, strengthen social stability, and increase community participation.
The distinct role of the mahalla in poverty reduction, provision of quality education, promotion of a healthy lifestyle, gender equality, and the building of sustainable communities was also highlighted. The declaration of 2026 as the "Year of Mahalla Development and Community Uplift" was assessed as a landmark decision aimed at further elevating the mahalla's significance in state and public life.
