The Role and Significance of the Economy in Ensuring Sustainable Development

22-04-2026 272

The economic reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan represent one of the priority directions aimed at ensuring the country's sustainable economic development, enhancing the competitiveness of economic sectors, and improving the well-being of the population. In this process, the modernisation of all economic sectors, the improvement of production efficiency, and the rational use of resources are of paramount importance.

In ensuring sustainable development, primary attention has consistently been directed towards maintaining ecological balance, introducing the principles of a "green economy," and the prudent use of natural resources. At the same time, mitigating the effects of climate change and improving the water and energy resource management system remain among the most pressing challenges.

On 22 April 2026, the Centre for Sustainable Development, in cooperation with the Training Centre for the Preparation and Retraining of Financial and Accounting Personnel of Financial Authorities and Budgetary Organisations under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, organised a seminar entitled "The Role and Significance of the Economy in Ensuring Sustainable Development," held with the participation of sectoral specialists and experts. The event was attended by financial sector professionals, representatives of state financial authorities, and budgetary organisations.

The principal objectives of the event were to ensure macroeconomic stability, assess investment effectiveness, manage public debt efficiently, and analyse the long-term impact of economic policy. In addition, issues relating to ensuring the resilience of the national economy in the context of global economic transformations were discussed.

During the event, participants put forward proposals on the introduction of innovative technologies in industrial development, the expansion of export potential, the improvement of the logistics system, and the development of the economic potential of the regions. Particular attention was devoted to the creation of new employment opportunities through support for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The role of the financial system in sustainable development is of special significance: the effective use of budgetary resources, the improvement of the tax system, and the enhancement of investment attraction mechanisms were identified as priority tasks.

Furthermore, aligning the education and personnel training system with the needs of the economy, as well as preparing qualified specialists in the field of digital technologies, was identified as an important strategic direction. This, in turn, will contribute to the formation of an innovation-driven economy.

In general, the role of the economy in ensuring sustainable development is of strategic importance, and the reforms being implemented serve to achieve the country's long-term economic growth, social stability, and ecological balance.
