On November 10, 2025, the Center for Sustainable Development, in partnership with the Veterans Affairs Council of the Ministry of Defense for Tashkent Region, organized a round table discussion at Secondary School No. 8 in Chirchiq city on the topic: "The Young Generation — A Guarantee of Sustainable Development: The Role of the Pre-Conscription Basic Training System in Education and Upbringing."
The event was attended by experts from the Center for Sustainable Development, members of the Central and regional Veterans Councils of the Ministry of Defense, leadership of the Chirchiq City Defense Affairs Department, heads of Initial Military Training (IMT) at general education schools, and military veterans.
Main objectives of the event:
• Communicating the essence and content of the Sustainable Development Goals to young people;
• Explaining the linkages between global and national priority directions;
• Discussing the substance of reforms aimed at sustainable development in Uzbekistan;
• Engaging youth in the processes of achieving national goals and strengthening patriotic education;
• Highlighting the significance of the pre-conscription basic training system.
Opening the event, Otabek Shermetov, Head of the Chirchiq City Defense Affairs Department, noted the Ministry of Defense's participation in implementing the priority tasks of the "Uzbekistan — 2030" strategy and the State Program. Key directions include:
• Enhancing the combat capability of the Armed Forces;
• Strengthening patriotic education among the population, especially youth;
• Improving the system for training defenders of the Fatherland.
In his address, Center Department Head A. Mamadzhanov emphasized that the country's major strategic programs are organically aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. Ongoing reforms in education, healthcare, the economy, and environmental sustainability are consistent with global trends.
He also noted that, according to the 2025 report of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Uzbekistan ranked 62nd among 167 countries worldwide. Since 2015, the country has been recognized as a state making consistent progress toward sustainable development in Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
The speaker placed particular emphasis on the fact that the country's sustainable future is inextricably linked to the spiritual maturity, physical health, and patriotism of its youth.
The words of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, delivered at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, were cited:
"Our tomorrow, the fate and prosperity of the world, lies in the hands of the rising generation. Instilling noble ideals of peace, patriotism, humanism, and friendship in the hearts and minds of our youth is our most urgent task."
These words once again underscored the critical importance of educating young people and fostering in their consciousness a respect for peace and devotion to the Motherland.
In today's complex global environment — marked by escalating geopolitical tensions, military conflicts, and inter-religious disputes — patriotism has become an indispensable quality for every citizen.
Another statement by the President was cited:
"Today, the very spirit of the times demands patriotism from every citizen. In this regard, military servicemen and teachers of the pre-conscription basic training subject must serve as exemplars."
The system of preparing youth for the defense of the Motherland serves to strengthen their spiritual integrity, ideological resilience, and civic responsibility. It plays a vital role in preparing reliable, knowledgeable, and dedicated personnel for the national army, civil service, and various sectors of society.
The general conclusion of participants: educating youth in the spirit of military-patriotic values and cultivating in them a sense of responsibility toward society constitute the primary guarantee of the country's sustainable development and peace.
The recommendations adopted at the event were noted to be of important practical significance for the implementation of the "National Goals and Objectives for Sustainable Development up to 2030."
