On September 10, 2026, a scientific and practical roundtable on the topic “New Uzbekistan’s Indicators on the Sustainable Development Goals” was held at the Information Resource Center of Urgench State University named after Abu Rayhan Biruni.
The event was opened with introductory remarks by Professor Feruza Madrakhimova, Rector of Urgench State University, who dwelt on its significance for integrating national development and the education system.
Within the framework of the roundtable, the following academic presentations were delivered on the interrelationship between the achievements of national independence, regional economic policy, and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
· Sh.Yo. Allaberganov (First Vice-Rector for Youth Affairs and Spiritual and Educational Work) — “Achievements of Uzbekistan During the Years of Independence”;
· I. Abdullayev (Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Professor) — “Effective Regional Economic Policy During the Years of Independence”;
· B. Ruzmetov (Head of the Khorezm Regional Division of the Sustainable Development Center, Professor) — “Reflection of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Seven National Programs.”
In his presentation, Professor B. Ruzmetov systematically analyzed the scientific, theoretical, and practical foundations of the seven national programs put forward by the head of state, as well as the extent to which they encompass the SDGs:
1. Knowledge and Skills: Recognizing human capital as the main driver of the country’s development, it envisages transforming knowledge and skills into strategic resources.
2. Healthy and Long Life: It represents a mechanism for protecting public health and steadily improving life expectancy and quality-of-life indicators.
3. High-Tech Economy: It envisages shifting the economy to a structural model based on high labor productivity, innovation, and the creation of high added value.
4. Water and Nature: It aims to ensure a sustainable living environment for future generations through the concept of environmental security and the rational use of natural resources.
5. Justice and the Rule of Law: It is aimed at strengthening a just civil society by ensuring the independence of the judicial and legal system and the rule of law.
6. Strong Mahalla: It defines the mahalla (local self-governance institution) as the principal initiator and commissioning party of social progress and territorial development.
7. Peace, Friendship, and Uzbekistan’s Place in the International Arena: It envisages expanding the country’s pragmatic, open, and tolerant foreign policy mandate and further strengthening its standing in the international arena.
It was emphasized that these program areas are of great importance for the effective implementation of the SDGs in the country, ensuring socioeconomic stability, and introducing a comprehensive approach in the academic sphere.
The scientific event concluded with discussions among the participants and scientific and practical questions and answers.
