Women's Rights: A Guarantee of Equality and Protection

24-03-2026 215

Today, ensuring women's rights and creating equal opportunities for them is one of the most important areas of state policy in many countries around the world. The legislation of Uzbekistan also places particular emphasis on ensuring equal rights between women and men. As stipulated in the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Guarantees of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men", the state guarantees equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the exercise of their personal, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. This is of great importance for ensuring justice and stability in society.

Women have an equal right with men to participate in the management of society and the state, in electoral processes, and in the fields of education, healthcare, labour, and other areas. These opportunities must be guaranteed not only in legal terms, but also in practical terms. For true equality must be manifested not only in laws, but in real life as well.

There are also specific provisions directed towards the protection of women. In particular, particular attention is devoted to the protection of pregnant women and mothers with young children in the workplace. In accordance with legislation, pregnant women or mothers with children under the age of 14 (including mothers with disabled children under 16) may be engaged in night work, overtime, or business trips only with their own consent. This serves to protect their health and family well-being.

As experts emphasise, achieving gender equality is not limited to the mere granting of rights. In this process, the elimination of gender-based discrimination, the expansion of women's participation in public life, and the creation of a safe environment for them are of great importance. Specific measures are implemented by the state to these ends.

In conclusion, ensuring women's rights is not merely a matter of social justice, but one of the key factors of social progress. For in a society where women are active and protected, the opportunities for achieving sustainable development significantly increase.
