Planning the Economy Based on the Principles of Sustainable Development

15-05-2026 259

In the context of contemporary global economic processes, integrating the principles of sustainable development into the economic planning system is one of the pressing tasks of the day. This is because, alongside ensuring the pace of economic growth, the rational use of natural resources, the preservation of ecological balance, and the maintenance of social stability have become a strategic objective for every state.

The economic reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan are also directed precisely toward this aim, seeking to ensure the sustainable development of the country's economy, modernize various sectors, improve the investment climate, and enhance the welfare of the population. In this process, improving the efficiency of the economic planning system and aligning sustainable development goals with national policy are of considerable importance.

On 13 May 2026, the Centre for Sustainable Development, in cooperation with the Training Centre for the Training and Retraining of Staff of the Financial and Accounting Units of Financial Bodies and Budgetary Organizations under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, organized a seminar on the theme "Planning the Economy Based on the Principles of Sustainable Development," with the participation of sectoral specialists and experts. The event was attended by specialists working in the financial sphere, as well as representatives of state financial bodies and budgetary organizations.

The principal aim of the event was the effective application of the principles of sustainable development in the economic planning process, the maintenance of macroeconomic stability, the enhancement of the effectiveness of investment projects, and the improvement of public debt management mechanisms. In addition, participants discussed issues relating to ensuring the resilience of the national economy amid global economic changes, raising the quality of strategic planning, and analysing the long-term impact of economic policy.

During the event, participants put forward proposals concerning the modernization of industrial sectors, the introduction of innovative technologies, the enhancement of export potential, and the development of the logistics system. Particular attention was also devoted to the creation of new jobs through raising the economic potential of the regions, improving the investment climate, and supporting small and medium-sized businesses.

In economic planning grounded in the principles of sustainable development, the system for managing financial resources is of decisive importance. In this process, the aim is to achieve sustainable economic growth through the effective allocation of state budget funds, the stimulation of economic activity through tax policy, and the further improvement of the investment climate. Moreover, the enhancement of the financial system contributes to raising the quality of planning processes.

The question of human capital also occupies an important place in economic planning. Adapting the education system to contemporary requirements, training personnel suited to the needs of the labour market, and developing knowledge and skills in the field of digital technologies are among the principal factors ensuring the stability of the economic system. This, in turn, creates the foundation for the economy's transition to a path of innovative development.

Overall, the application of the principles of sustainable development to the economic planning process serves to stabilize the pace of the country's economic growth, develop the social sphere, and preserve ecological balance. In this way, a solid foundation is created for the attainment of long-term strategic objectives.
