On 22 April 2026, in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Centre for Sustainable Development and the Egyptian Al Hewar Centre for Political and Media Studies (Al Hewar Center for Political and Media Studies).
The document aims to strengthen ties between the non-governmental organisations of the two countries and to broaden the mutual exchange of expertise in the field of sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the event, a dedicated presentation was delivered on the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in the area of sustainable development. It provided a comprehensive overview of measures related to the advancement of the green economy, improvements in energy efficiency, the promotion of environmental sustainability, and the wide-ranging initiatives underway in the social sphere.
As underscored during the event, the signed Memorandum is intended to elevate the longstanding friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Egypt to a new level through scientific and practical cooperation. It simultaneously creates a significant foundation for the realisation of joint initiatives aimed at securing a sustainable and shared future.
The event also featured the presentation of a literary and journalistic work by Arab journalist and author Ahmad Jasim Zubaidi, entitled "Spirituality — The Morning Star of New Uzbekistan. Islam — A Philosophy of Humanity, Knowledge and Enlightenment."
The work is notable above all for its ambition to illuminate the essence and substance of the religious-spiritual and scientific-educational reforms being carried out in the country.
Through his analytical and literary approach, the author devotes particular attention to articulating the philosophical foundations of the policy pursued under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The work offers a consistent analysis of the overarching priorities of this policy: the elevation of human dignity, the fostering of spiritual development, and the advancement of Enlightenment ideals.
It should be noted that this work may be regarded as one of the significant sources contributing to a deeper understanding of the model of spiritual progress taking shape in New Uzbekistan — its philosophical underpinnings and practical manifestations — as well as serving as an objective vehicle for presenting Uzbekistan to the Arab world.
This reflects the growing dynamism of people's diplomacy, and the fact that inter-state relations are increasingly being reinforced not only at the official level, but also through scientific and public dialogue.
Within the framework of the signed Memorandum, the two organisations have planned to expand scientific, analytical, and practical cooperation, exchange experience in sustainable development, and jointly develop solutions to pressing challenges facing the region.
The cooperation encompasses the following principal areas:
— conducting scientific research and analytical projects in the field of sustainable development; — organising joint conferences and seminars on climate change, the efficient management of water resources, the green economy, and environmental sustainability; — producing information and analytical materials, academic publications, and media environment studies; — analysing political, social, and economic processes; — conducting research on international relations, regional security, and geopolitical processes.
At the signing ceremony, both parties noted the steady progress in relations between Uzbekistan and Egypt, and emphasised that the future of the region must be built upon the foundations of sustainable development and mutual trust.
Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Egypt's Al Hewar Foundation, Muhammad Abdel Munim, commended Uzbekistan's initiatives in the field of sustainable development and expressed the intention to contribute to global sustainability through joint projects. He noted that the Memorandum opens new avenues of cooperation not only for the two organisations, but for the broader scientific community of the region.
Taken as a whole, the signing of this Memorandum — carried out with the active participation of civil society institutions and academic circles — marks the beginning of a new chapter and stands as a clear testament to the growing international standing of New Uzbekistan, as well as to the tangible and continued strengthening of people's diplomacy.
