Tashkent, 24 November 2025 — The Sustainable Development Centre organised a scientific and practical seminar for mahalla chairpersons in Tashkent, dedicated to the role and significance of the 'Mahalla Yettilik' system in effectively fulfilling the tasks defined by the Sustainable Development Goals and the 'Uzbekistan — 2030' Strategy.
During the event, Centre expert Avazbek Khalbekov presented information on the functions of the mahalla within the modern governance framework, methods for strengthening communication with the population, and new approaches aimed at the effective implementation of social projects at the local level.
As the expert emphasised, comprehensive support for the mahalla institution makes it possible to increase public trust in government bodies, identify and resolve social issues in a timely manner, and strengthen targeted approaches in working with youth and women.
The seminar also addressed the role of the 'Mahalla Yettilik' system in establishing direct dialogue with the population, expanding social partnerships, and making efficient use of existing community resources.
It was noted that the mahalla institution serves as an essential factor in the sustainable development of territories, the support of local initiatives, the provision of environmental safety, and the strengthening of community solidarity.
In the concluding session, participants received responses to questions relating to the improvement of the mahalla system, the enhancement of active civic participation, and the expansion of public oversight and collaboration.
