14-05-2026 758

On 13 May 2026, an international forum on the topic "Trade and Economic Cooperation of Greater Eurasia, Russia and the Countries of Europe: Challenges and Opportunities" was held in the city of Tashkent within the framework of the "Economy" working group of the "Petersburg Dialogue" forum.

The international event was attended by representatives of scientific and analytical centres, economic institutions, business and expert circles of Uzbekistan, Russia and Germany. In particular, the leadership of the Forum's "Economy" working group, VEB.RF, the VEB Institute, the Tashkent branch of Saint Petersburg State University (SPbU), the Russian Academy of Sciences, international experts, researchers, as well as specialists in the field of economic cooperation and sustainable development shared their views and considerations.

The second session of the Forum was dedicated to the topic "Cooperation of Central Asian Countries in the Field of Sustainable Development." It addressed issues of the efficient use of land, water and human resources, the harmonisation of environmental standards, the improvement of urban environment quality, and enhancing the effectiveness of the energy transition and "green" transformation.

During the session, a representative of the "Centre for Sustainable Development" NGO delivered an introductory presentation on the topic "Cooperation of Central Asian Countries in the Field of Sustainable Development: Resources, Standards, Technologies and Public Partnership."

The presentation emphasised that, for Central Asia, sustainable development is not merely an environmental agenda but a strategic matter directly linked to water, land, energy and food security, human capital, urban infrastructure and regional trust.

It was also noted that, taking into account the interconnection between water, land, energy, food, the environment and people in the region, cooperation should be developed through practical projects, joint analytical studies, educational programmes, pilot initiatives and public dialogue.

The "Centre for Sustainable Development" expressed its readiness to advance expert work, public dialogue and international partnership with a view to making the Sustainable Development Goals comprehensible to society, factoring them into regional policy, and translating them into practical proposals and projects.
