2030: Will the Problem of Hunger in the World Be Eliminated?

18-03-2026 160

Hunger continues to affect the lives of millions of people around the world.

Recent international analyses indicate that if current trends persist, by 2030 approximately 512 million people may be living with chronic undernourishment. This figure corresponds to approximately 6 percent of the world's population.

In 2015, when the Sustainable Development Agenda was adopted, the number of people suffering from hunger was estimated at 577 million.

By 2030, this figure is projected to decrease from 577 million to 512 million — a reduction of a mere 65 million people. This demonstrates that achieving the "Zero Hunger" goal remains a major global challenge.

Hunger is not merely a shortage of food. It adversely affects children's health, restricts access to education, deepens poverty, and poses a threat to societal stability.

Experts emphasise the need to strengthen the following areas: increasing agricultural productivity, making food systems sustainable, reducing poverty, and expanding social protection programmes.

Hunger is a problem that humanity is capable of solving. Through collective action, the vision of a world free from hunger by 2030 can become reality.

A sustainable future depends on the decisions we make today!
